The Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church needed a restoration of its beautiful dome following damage caused by Tropical Irene and subsequent storms; nearly 20,000 pounds of 20 ounce copper were used to breathe life into the roof and onion dome of the church. The dome features 18 inch copper diamonds with a ¾ inch relief to give it a texture that is visible from the ground. At the tips of all the diamonds are 4.5 inch rosette/crosses attached with a single copper rivet and a dab of solder. The copper dome is about 90-110 feet up from the ground and provides a glimmering, iconic recognition point to the church.
